Maharashtra is divided into 6 revenue divisions, which are further divided into 36 districts. These 36 districts are further divided into 109 sub-divisions of the districts and 357 talukas.

There are 48 member of Parliamentary Constituency in Maharashtra. 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies.

The state contributes 48 seats to the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

Maharashtra Legislative Council is the upper house of the bicameral legislature of Maharashtra state. There are 78 (66 Elected + 12 Nominated) member of Legislative Council in Maharashtra.

There are 95 members in the Poona Sarvajanik Sabha when it was first eastablished. It started as an elected body of 95 members elected by 6000 persons on 2^nd April 1870. The organisation was a precursor to the Indian National Congress which started with its first session from Maharashtra itself.

The Marathas attacked Goa in 1730. Maratha Invasion of Goa or Sambhaji’s Invasion of Goa refers to the invasion of Portuguese controlled portion of contemporary Goa and the northern areas of Konkan.

The Maratha Resurrection was the period between the Third Battle of Panipat on 14^th January 1761 and capture of Najibabad in 1772. In the Third Battle of Panipat, the Maratha Empire suffered a serious blow at the hands of the Muslim alliance of the Durrani Empire, Mughal Empire, under Prince Ali Gohar.

The Third Battle of Panipat took place on 14^th January 1761, at Panipat, about 60 miles north of Delhi between a northern expeditionary force of the Maratha Empire and a coalition of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Durrani with two Indian Muslim allies the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab and Shuja-ud-Daula.

The Treaty of Bassein was signed in 1802. Treaty of Bassein, pact between Baji Rao II, the Maratha peshwa of Poona in India, and the British. It was a decisive step in the breakup of the Maratha confederacy.

Mumbai Samachar was first published in 1822. The Bombay Samachar, now Mumbai Samachar, is the oldest continuously published newspaper in India. Established in 1822 by Fardunjee Marzban, it is published in Gujarati and English.
