According to the question

⇒ x = 25/5

⇒ x = 5

The quantity of milk in the original mixture is = 5 × 5 = 25 litres

∴ The quantity of milk in the original mixture is 25 litres.

13. A vessel contains 45 liters of whisky and vodka in the ratio of 8 : 7. If one – fourth of whisky is taken out and filled with 3 liters of vodka and again half of vodka is taken out and mixed with 3 liters of whisky, then find the ratio of whisky and vodka in the resultant mixture?

Let the whisky and vodka be 8x and 7x respectively.

15x = 45 liters

x = 3

8x = 8 × 3 = 24 liters

7x = 7 × 3 = 21 liters

According to the question,

Whisky taken out = 24/4 = 6 liters

Whisky = 24 – 6 = 18 liters

Mixture is filled with 3 liters of Vodka

Vodka = 21 + 3 = 24 liters

Now,

Vodka taken out = 24/2 = 12 liters

Remaining vodka = 12 liters

Mixture is filled with 3 liters of whisky

Whisky in the mixture = 18 + 3 = 21 liters

∴ Required ratio of whisky and vodka = 7 : 4

14. A drink contains liquids P and Q in the ratio 4 : 7. If 50 ml of first liquid is added to drink weighing 440 ml, then ratio of two mixture in it now becomes?

New Quantity of P = 160 ml + 50 ml = 210 ml

∴ Ratio of two mixture in new mixture now becomes 210 ml : 280 ml = 3 : 4

15. A solution has two liquids A and B. The concentration of liquid B in the solution is 70%. Solution A is added to the mixture so that the concentration of liquid A becomes 50%. By what percentage has the total volume of the mixture increased?

In final mixture ratio of all three types of solution

On solving

x = 1, y = 2

Quantity in container A = 9x = 9 × 1 = 9

20. A tea-maker has 2 types of mixture of tea with him. In 56 kg of first mixture ratio of tea to impurity is 5 : 2 and in 44 kg of second mixture the ratio of tea to impurity is 3 : 1. If he mixes these two mixtures with 17 kg of pure tea in a large container, then find the ratio of tea to impurity in the large container.

In 56 kg of first mixture, Tea = 56 × (5 / 7)

⇒ 40 kg and impurity = 56 – 40 = 16 kg

In 44 kg of second mixture, Tea = 44 × (3 / 4)

⇒ 33 kg and impurity = 44 – 33 = 11 kg

In large container quantity of pure tea = 40 + 33 + 17 = 90 kg

In large container quantity of impurity = 16 + 11 = 27 kg

Required ratio = 90 ∶ 27 = 10 ∶ 3

∴ The required ratio is 10 ∶ 3.
