In the following line-graph, the percentage profit earned by two companies  Godrej and Samsung during the period 2003 to 2008 is given.

1. If the incomes of Godrej and Samsung are equal in the year 2005, what is the ratio of the expenditure of Godrej to that of Samsung?

Ans:5
Let the incomes of Godrej and Samsung each be x in the year 2005.
Expenditure of Godrej = x × 100/(100 + 60) = 5x/8
Expenditure of Samsung =x × 100/(100 + 50) = 2x/3
Ratio = 5x/8 × 3/2x
= 15/16
= 15 : 16

2. The expenditure of Samsung in the year 2004 is what percentage of its income in that year?

Ans:3
Let the expenditure of Samsung be x.
Income = x × 160/100
% = x/8x /5 × 100
= 100x × 5/8x
= 62.5%

3. If the income of Godrej in the year 2008 and the expenditure of Samsung in the year 2003 are 98 lakh and 85 lakh respectively, what is the sum of the expenditure of Godrej in 2008 and the income of Samsung in the year 2003?

Ans:1
Income of Godrej = 98
Expenditure of Godrej = 98 × 100/100 + 40 = 9800/100 + 40
= 70 1akh
Expenditure of Samsung = 85
Income of Samsung = 85 × (100 + 40)/100 = 11900/100
= 119 lakh
Sum = 70 + 119
= 189 lakh

4. What is the percentage increase in the per cent profit of Godrej from the year 2004 to 2005?

Ans:4
Required % = (60 – 45)/45 × 100 = 15/45*100
= 1500/45
= 100/3
= 33 1/3 %

5. If the income of Godrej in 2007 and the expenditure of Samsung in 2008 are equal and that are 90 lakh each, what is the difference between the income of Samsung in 2008 and the expenditure of Godrej in 2007?

Ans:2
Income of Godrej = 90 lakh
Expenditure of Godrej = 90 × 100/100 + 25 = 9000/125
= 72 lakh
Expenditure of Samsung = 90 lakh
Income of Samsung = 90 × (100 + 20)/100 = 10800/100
= 108 lakh
Difference = 108 – 72
=36 lakh

Set-68
Study the following pie-charts carefully and answer the given questions.
The following show the crimes against women in the year 2006
Total number of cases registered as crimes against women in2006 = 10 lakh

6. During 2006, the number of cases of Torture and Odisha together exceeded the number of cases of Molestation by

Ans:5
In 2006, the number of cases of Torture
= 10 × 32% = 3.2 lakh
In 2006, the number of cases of Odisha
= 10 × 30% = 0.3 lakh
= 30000
Total cases in (Torture + Odisha)
= 320000 + 30000 = 350000
Again, number of cases of Molestation
= 10 × 30%
= 3 lakh
Exceeding number = 3.5 – 3
= 0.5 lakh
= 50000

7. During 2006, the number of registered cases in Punjab and Mizoram together exceeded the number of cases in TN and Odisha together by (in numbers)

Ans:2
Cases registered in Punjab = 10 × 16/100 = 160/100=1.6 lakh
Cases registered in Mizoram = 10 × 14/100 =140/100= 1.4 lakh
Total number of cases in (Punjab + Mizoram) = 1.6 + 1.4 = 3 lakh
Now, the number of cases registered in TN = 10 × 12/100=120/100 = 1.2 lakh
Number of cases registered in Odisha = 10 × 15/100= 15/100 = 1.5 lakh
Total number of cases
= 1.2 + 1.5 = 2.7 lakh
Exceeded number of cases = 3 – 27
= 0.3 lakh
= 30000

8. The number of cases of Human trafficking registered in UP exceeded that in MP by

Ans:3
Number of Human trafficking cases in UP
= 10 × 18/100 × 6/100
= 0.108
= 10800
Number of cases of Human trafficking in MP
= 10 × 16/100 × 6/100
= 0.096 lakh
= 9600
Excess = 10800 – 9600
= 1200

9. Which of the following crimes against women in Karnataka is less than 5800?

Ans:1
Total number of crimes registered in Karnataka in 2006
= 10 × 19/100 = 190/100= 1.9 lakh
Now, number of cases registered for Dowry deaths
= 1.9 × 20/100=38/100 = 0.38 lakh
= 38000
Number of registered cases of Torture
= 1.9 × 32/100 = 60.8/100= 0.608 lakh
= 60800
Number of registered cases of Molestation
= 1.9 × 30/100 = 57/100= 0.57 lakh
= 57000
Number of registered cases of Odisha
= 1.9 × 3/100 = 5.7/100= 0.057
= 5700
Number of registered cases of Human trafficking
= 1.9 × 6/100 = 11.4/100= 0.114 lakh
= 11400
Number of registered cases of Odisha is 5700, this only less than 5800

10. Approximately how many cases of Dowry deaths were registered per day in Mizoram in the year 2006?

Ans:3
Total number of cases registered in Mizoram in 2006

Number of cases of Dowry death registered in Mizoram
=1.4 × 20/100=28/100 = 0.28 lakh
= 28000
Number of cases registered per day in Mizoram
= 28000/366
=76.502
= 77
(Since 2006 is a leap year, there would be 366 day.)
