Percentages of Marks scored by five students in 4 different subjects are given below:

1. What are the average total marks scored by vidhya in all the subjects?

Ans:1
Vidhya:
physics = 75
maths = 120
Chemistry = 45
Biology = 75
Total marks = 315.
Avg. Total Marks = 315/4 =78.75

 

2. Total marks scored by Karthik in maths and chemistry is approximately, what percentage of total marks scored by dinesh in all subjects?

Ans:2
Karthik (maths) = (70/100) *150 = 105
Karthik (chemistry) = (65/100)*50 = 32.5
Total Marks = 137.5
Dinesh:
Total marks = 80+135+27.5+ 75 =317.5
Percentage = (137.5 /317.5) *100 = 43.30 =43%

 

3. What is the ratio of marks scored by Karthik in physics and dinesh in maths?

Ans:2
Karthik: dinesh = 90: 135 = 2:3

 

4. What percentage of increase or decrease in total marks scored by Sunil than to total marks scored by Nithya except maths?

Ans:3
Sunil Total marks = 75+127.5+37.5+80 = 320;
Nithya = 80+40+85 = 205
Increase Percentage = [115 /205]*100 = 56%

 

5. Who scored the maximum total marks?

Ans:2
Nithya = 80+40+112.5+85 = 317.5
Sunil = 75+127.5+37.5+80 = 320
vidhya = 75 +120+45+75 = 315
karthik = 90+105 +32.5+80 = 307.5
dinesh = 80+135+27.5+ 75 =317.5
Therefore, Sunil has the maximum total marks.

The number of students who joined and left the school in the beginning of year for six years from 2003 to 2008. Initial strength of the school in 2002 = 1500

6. What was the increase/decrease in strength of the school from 2004 to 2005?

Initial strength of the school in 2002 = 1500
In 2003 no of students joined = 300 => 1500+300 = 1800
In 2003 no of students left = 250 => 1800-260 =>Total students in 2003 = 1540
In 2004 no of students joined = 350 => 1540+250 = 1790
In 2004 no of students left = 250 => 1790-350 => Total students in 2004 = 1440
In 2005 no of students joined = 500 => 1440+500 = 1940
In 2005 no of students left = 400 => 1940-400 => Total students in 2005 = 1540
=1540-1440
Increased by 100

 

7. For which of the following years, the percentage of rise/fall in number of students left while compared to the previous year, is the highest?

Ans:2
2004 = ((350-260)/260)*100 = 34.61% rise
2005 = ((400-350)/350)*100 = 14.28% rise
2006 = ((400-300)/400)*100 = 25% fall
2007 = ((500-300)/300)*100 = 66.66% rise
2008 = ((500-500)/500)*100 = 0
Ans = 2007

 

8. How many students were there in the school during the year 2006?

Ans:1
Total students in 2005 = 1540
Number of students joined and left in 2006= 450,300
Total number of students present in 2006= 1540 + (450-300) =>1690

 

9. In which of the following pairs of years, the strength of the school is equal?

Ans:3
2003 and 2005 (1540 students)

 

10. The number of students in 2006 is approximately what percent of the number of students in 2004?

Ans:3
Percentage = (1690/1440)*100
= 117.36 %
